FAO`s must-reads to understand and support sustainable mountain agriculture
Monday, 2021/01/11 | 08:28:07

Mountains host about half of the world's biodiversity hotspots and 30 percent of all Key Biodiversity Areas. Mountains are home to many endangered species. Many of the world's most important crops and livestock species originate in mountains.

International Mountain Day 2020 is an opportunity to learn more about the importance of mountains, and to explore opportunities and challenges in mountain development through a selection of FAO publications.

JUST PUBLISHED: Vulnerability of mountain peoples to food insecurity. Updated data and analysis of drivers

The study reveals that in rural mountain regions of developing countries food insecurity has steadily increased during the period 2000–2017 going from 44 to 53 percent. It provides an overview of the world’s mountain areas and assesses the vulnerability to food insecurity of mountain dwellers in developing countries.

Mountain recipes: Cooks in high places – Mountain specialties

This book brings together the top 30 recipes from the International Mountain Day 2019 contest, highlighting the role that mountains play in our food, our cultures and our daily lives.

The publication sheds light on how mountain agriculture can contribute to satisfying all four dimensions of food security and help transform food systems to be nutrition-sensitive, climate-resilient, economically-viable and locally adaptable

Mountain Partnership Annual Report 2019

This publication provides an overview of the many national, regional and international collaborations, institutional strengthening, capacity development initiatives, thematic conferences and scientific reports that have taken place by Mountain Partnership members.

Vulnerability to food insecurity in mountain regions: Land degradation and other stressors

The study analyses the interaction between the increase/decrease of vulnerability to food insecurity in mountain areas and its underlying causes to understand their dynamics and impact. In particular, this study looks at the relationship between vulnerability to food insecurity and land degradation.
